Welcome to my own little corner of the internet where I get to combine a few of my favorite things: teaching, coaching, writing and learning!
My Story
I have always dreamed of being a writer. When I was young, I followed this passion by writing stories that I imaged would one day would turn into movies. When I got older, and I realized I needed to find a way to turn writing into a career, I decided to pursue Journalism at the University of Missouri. There, I learned how to write stories with the ticking of a stopwatch maintaining my pace, interview subjects for informative stories, and build connections with the reader.
When I graduated, I knew I wanted to continue writing, but I also knew I didn’t want to be a reporter. That’s when I decided to apply to Teach For America (TFA) to be a first time teacher in Dallas, Texas. TFA is an Americorps program that places teachers in classrooms with a need for teachers. TFA has the goal of equality in education for all students. Getting started in teaching with TFA was like jumping into the deep end of teaching with only a noodle to keep me afloat. It was tough, but it was doable, and it showed me the impact of teachers and education in a student’s life.
After my two-year commitment with TFA, I decided to move back to my hometown of St. Louis. I’ve been teaching and learning in STL ever since. When I’m not writing, I’m teaching my amazing students, tutoring students all over STL, or hanging with my family and friends.
Now, I combine my passion for teaching, experience in the classroom, and writing skills to provide new and struggling teachers with advice to succeed in the classroom.
I attempt to demystify the teaching profession and help teachers excel in the classroom. Reach out to me to see how I can help you become the best teacher possible.
